IMMERSED IN MUSIC THROUGH SPATIAL AUDIO – Berlin Music Tech Meetup #17

Berlin Music Tech Meetup on Spatial audio and immersive music

A late start into the fifth year of the Berlin Music Tech Meetups but a fantastic one. 🙂 Time to (re)connect !

This meetup will highlight the potential of spatial audio for the creation of new and truly immersive music experiences and what artists, producers, and engineers can get out of it. We will look at the benefits and challenges of creating these kinds of immersive musical experiences, and what it means for live performances and the quality of sound. We will learn about the opportunities for songwriters to think about music in a new way to create new narratives through the spatialization of sound.

Meet and connect with like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds, network, share ideas, and enjoy having fun and free drinks.

We are super happy about our collaboration with Berlin Partner for this event and grateful that the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises provided us with some funding for this event.

See you at Forum Factory on Tuesday, May 28 from 6.30 pm on.

Entry is free!

    PRESENTATIONS

1st Presenter: Andrew Rahman, co-founder of Spatial Media Lab e.V. and owner of @immersedinsound

Andrew worked in June of 2023 with Discovery Zone (JJ Weihl) to create a live performance of 50 minutes of new material in Ambisonics at the Zeiss-Großplanetarium Berlin. Upon completion, JJ’s label found the work so compelling that they would like to release it for streaming on Apple Music using Dolby Atmos. Andrew discovered a completely free pipeline to take a work composed in Ambisonics and convert it to Dolby Atmos for release. In the spirit of Open Source, Andrew has created a Reaper Template and documentation for this process that will be unveiled at the MusicTech Meetup.

2nd Presenter: Stefan Bock, Founder and Managing Director msm-studios

Stefan will present Artist Connection, a new streaming platform. Artist Connection lets you stream live events in immersive surround sound and high-resolution video for the first time ever. It supports all relevant spatial audio formats like Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D, 360RA along with high-definition video up to 4k. Additionally, the built-in e-commerce features make it easy to promote (and even monetize) your catalog and create custom subscriptions for your content.

3rd Presenter Felipe Sanchez Luna, Creative and Managing Director kling klang klong

What exactly is immersive spatial audio? Is it merely an expansion of a medium we are already familiar with, or are we encountering a new medium, a new space for creative output? Kling Klang Klong uses technology and science to craft immersive sonic experiences for museums, concert halls, and other, more unorthodox venues. Through their work, they transform complex data and concepts into poetic, emotionally resonant soundscapes. Felipe will guide us through some of his studio’s immersive work and will offer us a glimpse into a potential future for audio.

4th Presenter Nûjîn Kartal, Chief Innovation Officer MediaApes

What are the challenges and hurdles for Spatial Audio in regards to production in a wider sense, content development, and for the venues and in general play-out situations? What kind of options are already there and what are different use cases? Before diving into an open discussion about the bottlenecks and challenges of Spatial Audio, we will have a look at some examples of where it is used and present a project that aims to bring such experiences to more places.
