CreativeTech Grant SXSW 2019

In cooperation with and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Initiative Musik, and German Haus at SXSW 2019, MusicTech Germany announces a number of CreativeTech Grants for artists, startups and innovators to attend this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW 2019) in Austin, Texas (USA). 
The grants are designed as financial support to (partially) cover production costs and / or travel expenses and do not include performance / speaker fees.

South by Southwest (SXSW) celebrates the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. It’s the world’s largest gathering of diverse, collaborative, and inventive creatives in the world and attracts more than 400,000 visitors from more than 90 countries who all come together in Austin, Texas. The SXSW Conference & Festival one of the most important events for the international digital and creative economy – 10 days, packed with conference sessions, film screenings, exhibitions, art installations, networking opportunities, showcases, concerts, and parties.

Wether you are an artists who uses emerging technology in your creative endeavors or if you run a startup that seeks to develops innovative products or services, The CreativeTech Grant – funded in full by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Department for Cultural and Creative Industries – could be your chance to join this exceptional community of visionaries in Austin in spring 2019.

SXSW 2019 will take place from March 8th – 17th, 2019. The German Haus will open its doors from March 8th till March 14th. Selected artists and innovators can receive grants up to 3.000,- € to cover production costs and travel expenses for their trip to attend SXSW 2019.

Who should apply?

Artists

+ at all career levels – from emerging to established artists.

+ must be based in Germany.

+ must use emerging technologies or innovative approaches to create media, art, music, fashion, film, performances or immersive experiences.

+ must have all the rights to publicly perform or exhibit the work as proposed.

+ must be willing to actively and publicly exhibit or perform at the German Haus between March 11th and March 14th, 2019.

+ must have either already completed the work proposed or be in the final stages of the creative process; must be able to present their finished work at the German Haus during SXSW 2019. 

+ the CretiveTech Grants for artists cannot be combined with other federal funding received for the same project

+ grant recipients cannot accept corporate funding or commission for the same project presented.

Startups

+ companies or creatives developing an innovative product or service at the intersections of cultural and creative industries and technology.

+ meeting the micro, small or medium business status

+ until the point of applying, have a product or service to show (have created a prototype, an MVP, or have demonstrated some level of know-how in their respective field/industry.

+ revenue over the past year has not exceeded 500.000 EUR

+ must be registered in Germany at the point of the jury decision (end of January)

Besides financial support to cover travel expenses and production costs, the selected artists/innovators will also get the chance to attend match-making sessions and showcase their product or service at the German Haus in Austin, Texas. Artists will be provided with space for an exhibition, art installation or performance(s).

Selected artists/innovators will have access to susidised (=lower cost) SXSW conference tickets (SXSW badge).

Startups / Companies or Artist / Performance Groups may only apply for one grant and may not apply for individual grants for several members of one company or group. 

Awarded grants can, however, be spread among several members of one startup/company or group.

Applications are open to everyone who meets the eligibility criteria above. A membership at MusicTech Germany is not reaquired.

 All artists, who have been selected by a jury for one of the grants, will be informed by February 7, 2019.
